Acupuncture and Lateral Wedge Insole Benefit Patients with Medial Compartment Knee Osteoarthritis

In a parallel-group randomized controlled trial involving 40 patients with grade 2 or 3 medial knee osteoarthritis (OA), treatment with acupuncture was found to be as effective as treatment with an in-shoe lateral wedge, in significantly reducing pain and improving function, and non-clinically statistically significantly influencing femoral and tibial cartilage thickness. The authors conclude, "Both lateral wedge insole and acupuncture can be effective in the treatment of medial knee osteoarthritis without any superiority of one over the other."

  • To increase the protein in peanut butter (peanuts have about the same amount of protein as soy), Brewer’s yeast can be mixed in. This is especially useful for vegetarian
